The Woodland Mansion

Off to the Woodland Mansion [And Village] – 1.11 Seed

One of biggest new features in the 1.11 Minecraft update is the addition of another generated structure called a woodland mansion. These are huge houses with two to three floors, many rooms, and even a few hidden secrets. It’s not unusual for these to spawn 10,000+ blocks away from the spawn. That’s why having one only a 1,000 blocks away from the spawn is so great even though it sounds far.

The Village

When you spawn, you’ll need to travel to your right to find the mansion. Before you get far, you’ll find a small village at -146 / 68 / 245. This is a happy surprise because now you can get the necessary supplies to make the trek to the mansion. You’ll want to get plenty of food, and trading with villagers for any other survival items is a good idea too.

Also take the time to get yourself a decent weapon because these new structures hold a two new types of hostile mobs.

The Woodland Mansion

Once you’ve gathered all the supplies you need, continue to travel west. You’ll walk through a roofed forest, regular forests, and even some plains. Your end destination is -1103 / 75 / 577, and it’s not easy to miss. Woodland Mansions are one of the largest structures on Minecraft.

This mansion has three floors, with the top floor being smaller than the first. When you go in the front door, you’ll see a big staircase and two halls you can go down. Exploring this mansion may take you awhile because of its size and the fact that sometimes there are rooms that don’t have entrances.

There’s a long list of room types that can spawn in mansions, so as you explore you’ll see a variety of things. Some of the rooms may have a chest in them to get loot from. Make sure to inspect every room carefully. You may find it easy to get lost in this mansion thanks to all the twists and turns.

As you explore, be careful to look out for illagers. These are two types of villagers that are very hostile. One is called an Evoker, and it looks like a gray villager in a dark robe. They only appear in certain rooms so you don’t have to worry about them being around every corner.

If you run into them, though, beware of their attack techniques. They’ll either raise fangs out of the ground to bite you, or they’ll summon little flying creatures called Vexes that can go through blocks.

As if that isn’t terrifying enough, you have to worry about the second illager, the Vindicator. At least in this mansion, there are a lot more of them than Evokers. They look similar to Evokers with the gray skin, but they look like they’re wearing some kind of coat and pants instead of a robe. Their attack technique is running after you with an ax.

This mansion is packed full of great rooms to explore and mobs to fight. See what all you can find in this dark, scary structure!

  1. So in one of the rooms I found a giant head of either a vindicator or an evoker

I have no idea what I should do with it though

    Any advice?

    1. According to the Minecraft wiki, the giant statues of Illagers that look like they’re holding a torch have a block of Lapus Lazuli in their ‘heads’. Mine it out, a whole block of LL without having to mine for it is nothing to sneeze at now that enchanting costs 1-3 pieces of LL!
